Date on decimal coins

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'd like to know if anyone knows why as in predecimal coins the year date was always on the reverse, in decimal coins (except 20pence and 2 pounds) the year is on the obverse, with the titles of the Queen.

It'a a "case" or there is a particular reason?

Many thanks and Happy 2006!!!

The date was often on the obverse's in the 1800's.

(several denominations up untill 1860)

I think it is down to designers preference.

I love my exergue's,legends and obverse dates. :)

I like the date on the obverse or reverse... it's when it's on the edge only, that's when you worry.
