meikle10 Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 I am a coin collecting 'virgin' and have recently been left some coins by my late Grandmother and I'm not necessarily looking to sell these as I have some very fond memories of sitting on my Grandfathers lap looking at the coins.I don't have the experience on grading them but I would appreciate any information on the coin.I have took some pictures but they are mot brilliant as they are only taken from my Mobile phone camera. I can e-mail them if required. So here are some brief description of the coin.Small silver looking, about the size of an old shilling, dated 1817, has what looks like arabic writing on it, 5 Milliemes in value and looks as though it has a pressed hole through the middle, i.e. not worn through but made that way.Any help would be much appreciated. That would be dated 1917, not 1817. It is from Egypt, as a British Protectorate (1914-1922). This coin was minted in both London and Birmingham (look for a small "H" below the hole), which is the more common of the 2.London mint (without "H") mintage of 6,776,000. in average circulated condition would be worth about £2-3.Heaton mint (with "H") mintage of 37,000,000. in average circulated condition would be worth about £1-2. This is no 'H' below the hole so I would assume it is a London Mint? Quote

If you don't see the "H" there, then I would say you London mint issue. Quote
