Pound Coin inscription

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I was just wondering if the inscriptions around the edge of a pound coin are all supposed to be the same way up for a particular years minting or whether it's completely random? The coins I'm looking at particularly are 1985 Welsh Leek variety and out of 10 coins, I've got 5 of each (writing up/down) and I've just noticed one of them has the apostrophe missing between the 'I' and 'M' of I'M.

I have a mini collection of various fake pound coins and I can usually recognise one but these don't look or feel like fakes.

Any opinions?

Thanks

DaveT

The lettering is rolled on last, and the coins just go through it however they come, so the orientation and positioning is completely random.
