I have an example of this die pairing {G1/1} with the triangle over anchor reverse for around a year now, it came from the Prestbury hoard. I was not aware of it being unrecorded until recently. I am awating contact back from a knowledgable head on this subject who was to contact the experts {any news tom!}.

Brooker didn't have one and Michael Sharp didn't record it in his article, so it's probably like a lot of other things which are recorded in individual auction catalogues or on dealer's lists. Until someone incorporates them into a major new reference similar to Withers small change series which gains rapid acceptance, all these items remain "unrecorded". It is quite a logical variety given that there couldn't have been too much time between the end of the anchor mark and the use of the G1 bust, and two appearing at the same sale in different lots suggests commoner than you may think.

Yes Rob I totally agree, I too think this type or variety is more availiable than one might think. At Coinex this year I remember seeing a few Charles Shillings with Triangle over Anchor mm`s and I am sure if I think back one was of this type, so they are around.

While I am on this subject of overmarks does onyone know of which Charles overmark seems to show up the less, how about Portcullis over harp? I have recently come accross a Chas sixpence with this mark to the obverse, I can not seem to find many listings on this one, only a hand written entry for shillings on my copied Sharp papers.

Now that Tom has resurfaced after a prolonged absence, here are a couple more to add to the list. Both were obtained recently from the Vosper site.

The first is another tun over crown E2 obverse from the same die with apostrophe only contraction marks as as the E2/3 listed earlier in the thread, but this time paired with a reverse 2 and as a bonus this is also tun over crown and not tun over crown obverse only as listed by MV. A bit ragged, but presumably pretty rare.

The second is a G1/2 triangle in circle over star / triangle in circle.

Neither listed anywhere, nor in Brooker.

Just as an update.

No real identification. Coin News had a stab at a Mereaux, but I'd already gone down that route. So---my claim to have the only King Arthur stater remains

Thanks for those Rob. Added to my list and both new to me.

Just aquired an H2/1 - that's the second to last crude bust (im sceptre) but paired with the reverse made for the earlier (larger flan) coins. When I get it I'll scan and see if I can post it. Quite rare by all accounts (less than ten anyway).
