1874 Half Sovereign

Recommended Posts

Guest Peter Arnold

Hi,

Having just got the book "The Gold Sovereign" by Michael Marsh I had a look through the few sovereigns that my Mum has. We were quite excited to find a 1874 shield design which Marsh clasifies as "R4" (rather rare).

However, the coin that my mum has is the half sovereign, not the full one. Is there any relationship between the rarities of the half and full sovereign?

Thanks,

Peter

None whatsoever, they are completely different denominations and (without looking) the Half Sov is probably pretty common. It's a bit like a Cinquecento and an Alfa Romeo GTV, both made in the same year by the same people but neither has any affect on the value of the other.

(I like to refer to cars somehow, one of my other interests)
