I have search many places on the web for the 1942 coin but am only having "luck" finding a 1943. Does anyone know if the 1942 is supposed to be a rare coin? Thank you.

None of the currency George VI florins are rare. 1938 is a bit scarcer than the rest, but the only rare pieces are proofs and trial strikings, none of which would normally be encountered.

George VI florins are anything but rare there's probably still a heck of alot of them out there sat in people's drawers as they've only been out of circulation for the last 13 years.

1942 is infact an extremely common year for florins and half crowns. Mintage of the former was 39,895,243 - hardly rare. You should be able to get an uncirculated one from any decent dealer with very little effort.
