Commemorative Coins

Hello All,

I don't know If this Is the right place for this, so sorry in advance. After clearing out my room, I came across an old cigar box, full of coins. farthings, pennies, US Coins, but I also have a lot of mint Commemorative Coins, Silver Jubliee, etc. I was wondering who I can speak too, to find out more about these? Is there a special place on the net for these sort of coins. If anybody here Is Interested, I can take pictures of them.

Ok, heres what there Is.....

1. Pobjoy Mint 25th Anniversary of the Coronation 1953 - 1978 One Crown Coin ( Mint Condition, with Certificate of Issue From the Isle of Man Government in Green Presentation Box)

2. Pobjoy Mint, 1952 Silver Jubilee 1977, One Crown Coin (Mint Condition in Blue Presention Box)

3. Bailiwick Of Guernsey, 1972, 25 Pence Coin. ( Mint Condition, 1947 Elizabeth and Philip 1972, written on the back of coin.

4. 1965 Churchill Commermorative Coin. ( Elizabeth II DEI GRATIA REGINA F D, written on the back, Mint Condition)

5. Bailiwick of Jersey, 25 Pence Coin. ( Queen Elizabeth The Second 1952 - 1977, written on the back)

6. Silver Jubilee, 50 Cents Coin. ( Elizabeth II Australia 1977, on back. Like an English 50p Design.)

7. Elizabeth and Philip 20th November 1947 - 1972 Coin, with EP on front and D.G.REG.F.D on back.

8. One Dollar Coin, with some sort of coat of arms with crown on front and Elizabeth II New Zealand 1973 on back.

9. Canada Dollar, 1873 Prince Edward Island ILE DU Prince Edouard on front and Elizabeth II D.G.REGINA on back.

10. 1953, Five Shillings Coin, with 4 coat of arms with a crown in the middle on front and lot of writting on back and queen riding a horse. Around the edge of coin is written, Faith and Truth I Will Bear Unto You.

11. Gibraltar 25 Pence Coin, Queen Elizabeth The Second 1952 - 1977 on back.

12. Bailiwick Of Guernsey 25 Pence Coin, Queen Elizabeth The Second 1952 - 1977 on back.

13. This Coin does not tell me how much, but has 1977 date on back, with Queen riding a horse.

14. 25 Pesos Coin, Estados Unidos Mexicanos Ley 0.720 written on front. Juegos De La XIX Olimpiada Mexico 1968 and 5 Olympic hoops all on back.

15. A Strange Little Coin, Bit bigger then a Modern English 5 Pence Coin. This has King George VI Coronation 1937 on the front, with a navy blue ring containing the writting. It Is Blank on the back.

Hi Adam. Not sure if you're asking for more information, values or what to do with these coins...

Info - I don't know of a particular website but if you do a Google image search for 'commemorative crown' or 'Isle of Man crown' something will come up which will give you more info.

Value - At a glance I'm afraid none of these coins is of great value. You have to remember commemoratives are produced in huge numbers and generally don't circulate so lots of people have them in pretty much mint condition. You'd possibly get a couple of quid for the crowns on ebay but dealers would give much less since they have overheads and you don't get much profit on selling a coin for £2.

The Jersey coins and older US - value will depend heavily on condition. Again, no obvious money spinners I'm afraid.

What to do? - I imagine most collectors, including myself, have a drawer somewhere with examples of such coins left over from their early days of the hobby. I keep them until I find someone who might appreciate one, occasionally ebay a nicer example for a quid or two when I'm bored, or show them to my daughter when she complains about how little pocket money she gets (Look! 25p used to be a lot of money in my day! Works every time - not!)
