Silver Penny ?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone

Thanks For Letting Me Join Your Forums

Well straight away i have a question :D

Last week i brought my younger daughter (5 yo) A Metal Detector And Off We Went... And Has she put it... to find treasure

well after half hour we dug up a Edward VII 1907 penny

i know that they are not rare but this one was unusual

it looks to me like it's made from silver

i have trawled the net and no where can i find a 1907 silver penny

It's well worn and i know it's not worth anything (except to my daughter) who's Convinced she hit the jackpot and just out of intrest has had me buying up all the old pennies from all the 2nd hand shops in our area

can any of you shed any light on it please

thanks

If it's very tiny with a '1' on the back then it's a Maundy Penny.

That's unlikely though, so if it's the large type with Britannia on the back then it's probably been plated or toned a silver colour for some reason.

Thanks For That

After Close Inspection I Have Found A Small Silver Mark round the edge

So Mabe It Was Made For someone

i found a photo of a 1907 penny on the net and there were so many inconcistances with this one i now know it isn't real

anyway after looking thru this forum i found it quite interesting so i will stop for a while

iv also decided to start buying of ebay for coins for my daughter so if it's alright with you i might ask your advice again

cheers

i was just looking at your book :D

i just downloaded the sample

well as for buying coins off you that sounds good

the trouble is i haven't got a pay pal account and any transactions would have to be in cash or postal order

i would have to start small because as i said in the previous post's it's my daughter who is mainly interested and my daughter goes thru a lot of fads

if you have any thing which you would consider starter packs

that would be ideal

cheers

I do an album, printed book, lens and some envelopes as a starter accessory pack.

As for coins, I can sell you 50 assorted pennies for £8 plus postage (Edward VII to Elizabeth II as I've run out of Victorian). There are other inexpensive coins on predecimal.com

I don't think Chris meant the album etc.

The coins are a bargain for a new collector.

Look at the trash on Ebay.

I started my eldest on Edward V11 pennies to George V(1902-1936) and upgraded my collection in the process.

The KN,s and H's are a challenge as well as 1926 Me.

I ignored all of Freemans.....but kept my eye open ;) for varieties.

I can't believe prices on Ebay...A lot of modern coins can be bought cheaply from dealers.

hi peter

yeah i gathered that it was just for the pennies

sorry it was the way i quoted him

i had a look on ebay and that's still a good deal

is it me or do some of the sellers deliberetly photograph thier coins out of focus or from a distance :D

and what i found odd is a lot of sellers all joined on the same date and all got the same %

as im only just starting out in coin collecting rather than get my fingers burned on ebay and places like that

i'll just buy from from chris iv had a look round the net and he has a fantastic reputation

all the best

Do I?

Are there places that talk of predecimal.com?

I'd be interested to hear where my reputation comes from.

Thanks, I knew about those I think. The Amazon reviews are on my books, but I suppose that helps too!
