Okay don't mean to ruffle any feathers with this one, dealer is UK-based, many of their coins are better priced, seems genuine and am sure a pleasure to deal with. Dealer may even use these forums, but:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221299038370?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

"Slabbed and graded by CGS UK at 85 which equates to MS 65 on the Sheldon scale" and then later we have, "Provenance: Ex-Cheshire NGC MS64 RB"

So it's not full lustre and there's a toning spot on the obverse. Ex-Cheshire is about as interesting as Ex-Damian. And it didn't make the grade at NGC. £125?

I have dealt with Andrew Wide several times, and as you suggest he is a pleasure to deal with. All he is doing is starting the price negotiation at the CGS valuation (which I would (normally) do too, unless I thought they had undervalued the coin, which can happen with their ultra-strict grading at times). Remember this is a BIN or best offer listing, so you can make an offer!

CGS 85 being equivalent to MS 65 comes from the comparison table that both CGS and London Coins (almost one and the same) display on line and in their auction catalogues

I use the Best Offer option a lot as well as AJW. You'd be amazed at what we'd consider - I generally prefer to keep the coins moving if I can, so it's very rare to get a flat No. I've dealt with Andy, and I'll vouch for him too. A good man.

It is well worth making an offer, you have 3 'rejections' on eBay before you're out. I have offered less than a third of the BIN price on several occasions and had the offer automatically accepted! A-la Antiques Road Trip, but with no BBC cameras putting the pressure on!

This is more unlikely to happen with slabbed coins, but bear in mind the seller will always have a 'floor' that relates to what they paid for the coin.

Yep and like I say I don't want to have a go at the dealer! Sorry Andrew!

It's a nice coin and I'd like it in my collection but the premium on the slab is way too high.

1. A CGS 85 can't be said to equate to MS65 if other TPGS won't grade it MS65. Don't get me wrong, resubmission of this coin may see it come back MS65, but still.

2. 100-point scale, 70-point scale, RB, RD, ... let's not forget what's inside that slab.

3. If a 1924 half penny in UNC is going to cost collectors £125 (I assume best offers would have to be reasonable) it's time to give up.

Make him an offer, Damian! You won't know what the premium on the slab is till you do (if any). Don't assume anything, honestly, talk to the man.

I can't tell the difference between a 64 and a 65, and it's my job.

See if you can find one better, perhaps? They can be surprisingly difficult that good.

All that matters is what they sell for, not what sellers (optimistically on occasion) are asking BIN or what catalogues and graders are valuing them at. A more realistic price for this coin may well be far less than is being requested and quoted, don't be put off by asking prices or catalogue values necessarily, would be my advice. There isn't always a premium because it's slabbed, at least not in the UK, although when selling on eBay I do a lot better with my slabbed coins, without a doubt! Make him an offer, through eBay or talk direct!

Tip: many sellers will sell for an extra discount outside of eBay/Paypal, since that avoids seller's fees ;) (Only do this with eBay sellers you trust!)

At the risk of opening a very large can of worms, here we go again on the variabilities of slabbing the same coin on different occasions. Many coins, maybe even a majority would come back a different grade following resubmission. I have had several coins that were graded differently. Someone posted a line of 5 resubmissions of the same coin which came back 67-69. Just accept and move on. Considering the coin alone and paying little or no attention to the number will stand you in good stead.

Just a quick heads up on a seller and buyer who are 1 and the same. Although the seller sells junk (mostly silver bullion) i've been selling some silver proof myself.. The ebay seller bough a couple of coins from me a proof 1977 jubilee 25p and something else and i noticed shortly after it listed on their ebay list. I basically left a Feedback saying they'd bought from me at X Price and then added them to the blocked bidders list.

I had the buyer previously and never thopught to check the names etc until they won 3 items from me today, so i checked both addresses against the two names and found they are both 1 and the same and i expect the 3 items they won to be listed on the seller site which will more than likely be shill bidded up to make Profit (this is my opinion only) but if my items sell at this Level then in theory they should be selling it at the same Level.

So the seller Name is francesca12008 and the buyers Name is fanandloulou both with the same address (Francesca Infanti)

Sorry azda, but what's the issue here? From your post it seems they bought it from you and then tried onward selling at a higher price, which seems fair enough if they can. Or is there something I've missed?

Not really a worst offering, but gone beyond my buy/resell parameters at £74!

Shame about the reverse damage, but we have all seen much, MUCH, worse, go for a lot more! 321349257487

Has been in the £20 region until today...was hoping it would go unspotted! :(

"1562 over 1 Elizabeth 1st Hammered Three Farthings - Choice (A410)

12mm diameter.

0.28g.

A clear over-date; the much rarer 1560's date (these are usually 1570's) and high grade. Choice."

Unfortunately the photograph that accompanies it is of a replica 1562 sixpence. So if any of you has a spare £300, I'd suggest saving it for another day.

Interesting low-feedback seller...especially given most of his date-facts are correct for the threefarthing! The overdate is however commonly found with the Pheon!

I queried it and got "I don't really have any knowledge of coins I was just asked to put it on my account"

hmm.

That Ref Code looks familiar, thinking about it, maybe the whole description is a copy and paste? Would make sense!
