Here's one from our favourite seller. This was listed as a BIN for £1300 i think it was, now he's auctioned it. Winning bidder is one of his friends called sonofcork with a 410 feedback, he's from Australia.

I was watching that one as well. How do you know who the winning bidder is it just says private on mine?

Not if you use an apple product, plus the seller has been noted for 18 months or so for certain practises which helps the prices of his auctions.

He had several people who helped things along and the person i mentioned was one of those who always bidded but seemed to just miss out everytime. He must be one of the unluckiest ebayers ever.

Its normally the case with rarer high grade coins. He seems to think he must get Spink book prices plus for the rare stuff even though he's buying for less. Its a case of be careful as its sometimes overgraded/dipped. Its your choice to bid or not, but most of us on here know him well.

Just place a bid for what you think is a fair price, you may well get it. Just don't get caught in a bidding war.

I've bought a couple of coins from him and have just set up a snipe for my maximum. I recall getting my last coin from him for under my snipe so I was happy.

The golden rule for all auctions, decide your highest bid and stick to it - virtually everything I buy on Ebay is via a snipe

It annoys me more than anything when looking at a coin prefixed with "Rare" or "Error" but no explanation as to what the rarity/error in concern is..

Is it because it's a proof? (read:it's not a proof)

JMB4Home, and GBC Coins are the same Company. They have a "Ton" of Great Britain Coins, including some really scarce coins. The only problem is, they want at least twice what something is worth! You can see their entire list at www.GBCcoins.com. They do visit some of the large coin shows here in the U.S., and when you visit them at the show you are sometimes able to get them to arrive at a much better price. Fred at GBC pays his partner to handle the eBay online sales, thus the need to get a little more $ from eBay sales. Anything you see advertised on eBay you can probably see for sale on the GBC site also. With all that said, they are nice people to deal with.

I have no quarrel with GBC as they have quite a listing - admittedly much of it dross - but have gotten some nice pieces from them and they have on occasion been amenable to bargaining. I got not long ago the very nicest 1847/6 groat I have ever seen, something I had been looking for these many years.

That is a lovely play with the "Tower of London" bit there....
