Ebay's Worst Offerings

Recommended Posts

Guys,

Is it me or is this a sadly mis-attributed 1879 penny?

I am struggling to see that date as being small or narrow...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Great-Britain-1-Penny-1879-AU55-BN-NGC-bronze-KM-755-Small-Date-1P-SCARCE-/371088609577?pt=US_World_Coins&hash=item56669ad129

Definitely wrong - that's as clear a case of normal wide date as you will ever see. The two types are very very distinctive.

This is one of Stewies (coinery) coins. Dunno when he sold it to the ebay seller but lets see if the seller recoups the £150, he's halfway there 231275904316. i'm highlighting it to see if the seller has basically bought it too sell on or try too sell on for profit.

If its not to expensive maybe Stuart can take a pint and buy it back for less than he sold it for :D good economics

Top spot, Dave...man, you're good!

I've been watching it from day one! I'd be happy to buy it back! Typical irregular flan of this date, though! ;)

Edit: by irregular I mean slightly ovoid!

Was this a recent purchase from you Stuart? I actually asked about it because he states he only ships within the UK which he's not moving on. If i were you Stewie i'd also try and buy it back if it stays under £100, its ebay after all, so it probably will unless he's going to up it himself. I did mention to him though where it came from and the price paid, so he'll now know i'm only interested in the final price ;)

Will have to check on the date, but within a 12 month I'd say! Better not bid with a george account, then! ;)

Did you take a stab Stewie? Sold for £90.01 just goes to show that ebay has really gone downhill for selling a half decent coin

I couldn't get online, was at the air tattoo in fairford, and I'm wondering whether they were jamming signals as a security measure? Damned annoying though, as I couldn't snipe that Roman Denarius either!

After eBay's juice, the seller will only have got around half of what they paid for it! 1602's not an easy date, either!

Another replica Elizabeth I misdescribed... I've informed the seller.

Seeing as it has 'COPY' clearly impressed into the reverse, you'd have to be a blind idiot to buy this for £300. Maybe the seller meant £3? :P

It's a shockingly poor example, surely the seller isn't so lacking in the area to know this!

Even my wife instantly filed this as fake! Good girl! X :)

I was in a field on the North side of the runway with about 200 other cars. £15 to the farmer to park up, he supplied a burger van and a few portaloos, and the best seats in the house from the comfort of your own car roof.

So close you could feel the heat of the afterburners on your face!

How very Declan! :) I did spot a couple of fields with campers in, on the left hand side as you approached the gate, and thought, yeah, that's the way to do it! Exactly what we plan to do next year, strangely enough! :)

Are air tattoos like air guitar? A bunch of guys go up on stage each hunched over the bare shoulder of another guy, who regularly yelps in pain to the rhythm of a heavy metal band, while a row of girls paint imaginary dragons, hearts, swords, and "MOTHER", in the air?

Thought i'd email the seller and ask how much he wanted for it (realisticly) and see what he comes back with, then i'll see how Trustworthy he is when i ask if its a copy :)

The big give away (apart from the word copy and the WRL stamp...) is that the description is copied & pasted. The seller cannot speak/(type) English and so I wish you luck in getting a coherent reply.

Declan & Stu, we have our own little Air Festival down here in Bournemouth in August. Nothing much just

Red Arrows
Battle of Britain Memorial Flight with two Lancasters
Eurofighter Typhoon
Avro Vulcan XH558
Canberra XH134

and just about every form of helicopter available.

The Arrows are here for all four days, and it's free!

That's my favourite air show (not just because it's free!). Absolutely LOVE the Eurofigher! I like to get an outside table at end the of the pier where there's a restaurant, the planes fly right over head! :)

Since last year, we've built an extension with a large section of flat roof. Strangely like a south facing viewing platform, and at just the right height to see over the trees and out to sea.

Our neighbour goes that little bit further. She books a seafront hotel room with a balcony each year, so we'll be joining her for at least one day, maybe two.
