Bloody hell, that sounds great. I fell in love with XH558 at last years Fairford, but it wasn't there this year so I went to Farnborough as well just to see it. I took the underwing tour and was hanging on every word! 11 years between the first Lancaster and the first Vulcan. That is some progress in 11 years, they look like they are from a different century.

After the Vulcan waltzing gracefully through the sky the Typhoon seemed like a 16 year old going too fast round a roundabout on an RD50!

The Canberra hits the spot for me too. Early jets seem to do it. Meteor, Vampire, marvellous.

My dad was in the air force, so I have seen quite a few different air shows, but the best one by far is the one at RAF Cosford if you are anywhere near its definitely worth a trip

There is the Barton airshow up here, but normally the closest we come to an air display is the nightly patrol of the Police helicopter, shining a light on all those naughty boys on the estate - a near daily event. :(

It's going to be a bit special.

That sounds pretty amazing, BG, I'd heard the canadian one was coming over for a spell!

8 merlins roaring by, likely 10 with the Spit and Hurricane, makes my stomach roll over just to think of it? My favourite planes of all! Flying a Spit was what got me into flying, awesome!

You're going to have to have me and Declan over next year, we can split the travel costs! :D

After working at RAF Honington building Hardened Aircraft Shelters and ancillary buildings my portacabin was at the end of the runway so we had constant Tornado's taking off and the smell of aviation fuel filled your nostrils.Later it was Phantoms.

I moved over to RAF Lakenheath and it was F15's.

I also got a permit to drive onto the runways. We were putting in boreholes and a reservoir and about 7km of large dia water pipework.

Again my portacabin used to shake like buggery.

When a jet had major maintenance it was tested.

Vertical climbing was breath taking.

Tell me again...how beautiful is life? :)?

I had a warehouse in Building 521 at Heathrow, facing the main runway. Every morning Speedbird 1 (Concorde) would go barreling down the runway and work would stop. It didn't matter how many times you'd seen it or how long you'd been around aircraft. One of the PanAm guys was a veteran of Croydon Airport, and he watched too.

Even better was to watch it come in to land at night in winter, preferably over Hounslow Heath. Enormous gouts of flame pouring from the engines.

Spectacular.

The U.S. Marine Air Wing used to fly the Harrier "Jump Jet." It's really cool how it takes off!

Was this last statement of yours made post-mortem Dave? You've just been shot - for your own good, I might add. ;)

I'll leave you to work out what's wrong.

Thanks for that.

I'm a Halifax man myself but I suppose I could put up with two "Daily Mirror Aircraft" once. ;)

If anyone's coming to the Bournemouth Festival this year, I could be persuaded to buy them a pint.

I'm not aware of any double amputees on this forum. One hand should suffice for a pint pot.
