Ebay's Worst Offerings

Nothing like going overboard with the photo editing suite. The coin is similar to these woman who slap to much make up on, all too enhance the price no doubt, the actual slab pictures are totally different than his own

Oh dear are we starting to get fakes of rare bronze now?

this is a rare coin with a mintage of just 250,000, and poor survival rate in the tropics - but this 4 Bese of Italian Somalia has to be cast surely

a real one in high grade here

V.E. III's coins are the most falsificate in Italy because there are a lot of collectors and in genaral have high prices .. However It's strange because this coin is rare but not too muchu

Someone liked it, just gone for $625 (£404)

@Dave

Jeeeeze that's OTT. How can he say that 'the pictures are of the actual coin' when the first set look completely different from the second set? Are you getting 2 coins then yeah? Pfff.

Exactly, so people who bid on his items should now surely know he enhances his pictures, but in this instance he's made a complete mess of them

I thought he also AT'd his coins, but of course he can't if it's in a slab ...

His pictures make it look hideous, just as well he added the slabbed pictures along with the other 2

The question of colour is a bit misleading. It is quite easy to see how you can get totally different colours from what is essentially the same coin because the lighting can have a dramatic effect. Some members of this forum will be familiar with the pattern halfpenny in post 5 of this thread. http://www.predecimal.com/forum/topic/6366-rainbow-toned-us-morgan-dollar/?hl=p1169#entry59576

However, how many would say that it is the same coin as that in the attachment below? I took the attached 5 minutes ago. I have no idea what conditions were for the earlier image.

You are correct Rob, depending on the lighting it can bring a different picture, but he's used gamma rays and kryptonite on these and over saturated them to try and bring out the colour slab buyers in droves

We are trying to define what constitutes an accurate representation of the object in question and I am not convinced that is possible. Whatever programs are used to take images and convert them into a web based picture will all affect the output to a different degree depending on the method of converting data. Contrast, saturation, more blue, red or whatever colour will all change the outcome and by extension your perception of what someone is trying to do. Everyone tries to show their item in the best possible light.

e.g. If everyone used a scanner, then colours would appear to be mostly washed out in comparison to those seen in hand. Would it be misrepresentation to enhance the contrast and colours? All I know is that getting a faithful reproduction of what I see in the hand is a complete lottery and more the product of good fortune than photographic skill. I think you have to take everything with a small pinch of salt.

For the record, in hand the pattern halfpenny shows the multicolours seen when held at a specific angle to the light, but in any other direction looks somewhat browner than the image I took today. i.e. it does not accurately represent the coin.

FWIW I thought kryptonite was green? I am willing to stand corrected.

This is from memory. The original classic kryptonite was green. ..

There is also red gold blue maybe more colors...

More importantly in reference to how an image is displayed, you can take the exact same image on different monitors and displays depending upon the settings, and they will vary

A UNC hammered at £600 in March and not quite as nice as this one, I'd say the price is about right at the minute

Saw this 351587618787 on eBay and thought 'hmmm, Edward II Farthing, Saxby must be getting himself a little help?'

But looked at the obverse and thought, 'ah, maybe not!'

Reassuringly Saxby's! :)

Never knowingly undersold (whatever that means)

Has anyone else seen this -click and collect- from your local Argos that ebay offers now?

Has anyone used it and is it pretty much as says on the tin?

I have used it quite a few times. It saves loads of hassle when it comes to missing the post. You get a text to say it is at the local Argos and you simply pick it up at a time appropriate to you. No extra cost so win win.
