I've bought quite a lot of stuff off him. I like him. I always knock half a grade or so off his, but to be honest, that's a lot less than I knock off some bigger players than him.

His photos are different to most peoples - he tends to stand his coins up and photograph them vertically, which is probably how he has overcome camera shake.

Getting the colour right, especially under artificial lighting is an absolute minefield as I'm discovering with my new camera, so I'd be a bit forgiving on that one.

As always, look at the coin and ignore the grade given.

Nice coin but not for me 1ds are a done job and I couldn't be A5sed with the hundreds of different die matchings....each to their own and look out for the slender 3

That 3 doesn't look like any 'open 3' I've seen. But then, the coin is too worn to have been manipulated. Hm. I'm not sure what it is, I just don't feel convinced. It seems partway between the two types. I don't like it.

It's a recognised variety for those of us who like such things, very rare, a specimen (graded as Fine and said to be finest known) sold for £700 here James Workman sale

My example cost 45p on Ebay, which is why it's worth looking hard at the crap for certain dates

Why is the finest known only F?...nice one on the 45p coin....I've bought a few coins of which I was quite smug with...and even a few off dealers lists...a 1849 farthing in GVf for £6 ...he wasn't a farthing buff....I will have to through my sack full of pennies to see if there anything rare.

Presumably cos no one has yet found a higher grade example

Those of us that collect varieties have to put up with whatever grades we can get.

I confess... 'Twas I .... so much for hiding the bidders ID... LOL!!!

I sold an inferior specimen for $195 a few months ago.... This specimen will replace an example that I currently have.... I will know for sure once it arrives......
