Well, you say that. But it's actually London Coins, a UK firm. Of course it shouldn't be too surprising given their interest in swaying us all to the benefits of slabs. But £80?? For a £2 coin? Will anyone buy do you think?

It's the London Coin Company, not to be confused with London Coins Ltd who have the close link to CGS UK.

The text refers to the limited edition proof, but this looks like a standard circulation £2 to me and PCGS would have added a P to the label surely?

Not an ebay coin I know (actually from Antony Wilson's site) but this penny portrait amused me. It looks as if the King is choking on a fishbone! Or maybe it's the dysentery the poor chap died from? Either way, not a happy fellow.

I actually saw that yesterday while browsing his site and thought it was fairly amusing. On a somewhat unrelated note, are the prices on his site reasonable for most hammered coins? His site seems to be about the only place that I can buy a large selection of hammered and I was wondering if they were fair or if I should hold off on buying some of his and try to score some on eBay or at a coin show.

Looking back at old coin mags there were coin fairs every week seemingly all over the country.

We can't be far away from 3D viewing of coins so you can get in close to that rare av circ 1899 1D.

I love looking back at old coin magazines and price lists. Nothing better than to see a 1977 dealer price list Barber and Seated dimes for 30 cents each (minted 1836-1916) but the US bicentennial coins NEVER TO BE MINTED AGAIN!!! were selling for well above $1 for an uncirculated quarter, $2 for an uncirculated half and nearly $4 for an uncirculated dollar! I guess people used to buy anything, even back then.

"IN DISPLAYED ONLY, WONDERFUL CONDITION" is a new grade to me. Persumably that's what Americans would call XF-3 ?
