So i had to ask the question...............

Dear lucido_8,

I'm assuming this has been date altered from the 1889?

Reply

no date change...it is an 1887 coin

- lucido_8

So replied

Dear lucido_8,

Really? How would you explain the rubbing around the 7 in date? Strange no?

...and the fact that it has the large head obverse that didn't appear until 1889.

I suspect that Dave has that clincher up his sleeve! :D

And this one is very highly graded. So highly graded in fact that it is indisputably overgraded by even the most abstract definition of high. Peck, you might want to reassess your viewpoint on this seller. Caveat emptor, particularly any beginners reading this.

Maybe better to let people bury themselves than let others do it for them

I note that he is careful not to proffer a genuine numismatic grade for this one (which should of course read 'a very common coin in Fine'), unlike many of his other (also over-graded) offerings, only 'very high', therefore far more subjective ... I have noted in the past that he seems to combine clever photography, tilted angles, and sales patter, to achieve a top price, caveat emptor indeed

He was once respected amoungst forum members who have previously bought from him. As said in a previous post, good coins are becoming harder to obtain, hence now the spin from this seller for crap coins.Anyone who is a serious collector can see it's not a very high graded coin........Only the ebay prey will buy

He's changed.

I think you're right, Peck. Either that or he's stayed the same while I've gone up. I used to buy a few from him, but haven't in ages.

I'd love to know which 3 experts he consulted over this coin.

Mmm worth £1600 so I'll sell it for a grand. Bargain.

99p would be closer to the mark for a 6 + G in this condition.

I note he has tilted the camera so that the clincher between Obverses 2 and 6 - the gap between the top of the head and the linear circle - can't be seen clearly!

Yes, funny that! Luckily he hasn't managed to hide different protrusion of leaves at the front of the wreath.

Not sure why people do this.

"The auction you are now visiting is for what I believe to be is a Hammered This enchanting example has very good detail on the obverse and the reverse. I have graded this piece as Fine and this is my opinion. Please study my photos and judge the grade for yourself. It is sold as seen.

Please note that I always endeavour to be accurate or to under-grade because I am not a seasoned numismatist. I also guarantee, the coin/s displayed in the photos are the exact coin/s you will receive."

And he has four more just like it ...

Not a laugh, just some a comment. That I'm pretty sure this is a fake. Or rather, it's a modern replica made of pewter-like white metal. eBay # 261102675755

So if anyone is looking to buy a Charles I shilling with the star mint mark, beware of ones looking like this!
