Oh what a waste

This could of been a cracking coin if some idiot hadn't bashed and polished it.

That can't be genuine, surely?

I'm not making any statement at all about authenticity, just that I have never seen the like of it before!

I'm confused. When you say the like, do you mean the coinage/type or the appearance of the coin giving a certain impression?

Yes, I did spot the confliction and nearly added an edit! For me the planchet remains too perfect, having an almost milled appearance! Just to re-contradict myself, I'm not making any authoritative statement about the authenticity of the coin, just that it doesn't sit comfortably with me, and is unlike any hammered coin I've seen before! That's all! I personally would not buy it from that image, regardless of the seller! It would really warrant an in-hand viewing!

Fair enough. It is worth noting that eBay has become a buyer's world to the extent that you are guaranteed a full refund if the item is not as described. I bought a penny for a sizeable sum on eBay recently whereby the seller had 'conveniently' forgot to describe a chip that the photographs 'conveniently' also didn't show due to some 'convenient' positioning of the camera. As such I was able to obtain a refund fairly easily against the seller's wishes. The same could be said for this coin if it did turn out to be fake upon further inspection in hand.

There has been talk elsewhere online of this Burgred's patina being typical of a fake, but I'd like to illustrate one of mine which I feel exhibits a similar 'patina' and is genuine.

The item location of this penny implies that he has not yet dug it up.

Yes, but the important question is whether it is a field in Northampton or Durham?

And you choose the reign with the greatest diversity of silver coinage denominations (Civil War oddities aside) - then go for the only one that doesn't exist. Doh.

I'll bet they've given up on the lottery with that kind of statistical failing? :)

I feel they show the coin from all angles. Nicely done! ;)

Yuk yuk and yuk again, whatever the grade ANYONE dreams up, that coin has zero eye appeal for me!
Apparently it's Elvis' print, though! :D

Edit: must get a bag of MS 1967 pennies over to Johnny Depp and get him to paws his way through them with his buddies! Could be a new dramatic turn in the slabbing world...MS67 1967 British Penny with a 75% index print of J.Depp!

This time next year we'll be millionaires Rodders!

That's ok then, no problems for you as you're not being forced to buy it. Beauty is as always, in the eye of the beholder.

Full marks to the person listing it. Cac rainbow is about right - 40 shades of brown. :)

Wow, EF's sound a whole lot better described as Splendido, but like something you'd toss in the recycling bin if called Vorzuglich. Not quite sure what to make of Fast Stempelglanz either!

P.s. I was never good at languages :)

Maybe not even that. Sheldon 35-40 I've got down as F+. Looks like your grading of it was spot on, Peter!
