Ebay's Worst Offerings

Wow, EF's sound a whole lot better described as Splendido, but like something you'd toss in the recycling bin if called Vorzuglich. Not quite sure what to make of Fast Stempelglanz either!

P.s. I was never good at languages :)

I think it was Jeremy Clarkson who commented on the lack of romance in the German language particularly its description of nipples as 'breast warts'!

If there ever was a coin that wanted cracking out and dipping that's the coin.

Looks quite nice, but.........First item on ebay from this seller and from China. Assuming its a fake, what should we be looking for?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Britain-1812-Georgius-III-DEI-DRATIA-SILVER-COIN-/281221504719?pt=UK_Coins_OtherBritish_RL&hash=item417a1b9ecf

he makes no claim to its authenticity, suggest extreme caution - the description

"Georgius III DEI DRATIA"

says it all :)

I'm always amazed at the number of people out there who will spend a decent amount of money on a coin, who so obviously know nothing at all about the series they are buying! And this is about as easy a spot as you will ever see too!

Maybe people are not that dumb and most are bought by the seller

Coin News should have an eBay warning list in every issue. #1 on it should be "Beware any seller using the words: I dont no much about coins". Big know-know!

£13.55 for a coin with a legal face value of £20! Now that's good business... for the buyer.

If it weren't for the postage ...

He might just about break even if he interprets 'express delivery' to be first class, which is, of course, anything but 'express'.

Methinks 'motodude' drives a Reliant Robin and does shady deals on London estates. Nobody can lose so much that easily without being a real plonker. ;)

Postage is a difficult one. Given the cost of signed for postage is an effective minimum £1.79 plus the cost of a jiffy bag, it seems unreasonable to expect to pay less than £2.50 to £3 P&P. That is without adding a bit on to cover your eBay fees. Anything requiring Special Delivery has to be up at the £8 mark unless the seller absorbs the costs, but then you would have to question the wisdom of selling anything on eBay at the moment.

If the seller is VAT registered, they have to add VAT onto the carriage charges whether it goes by Royal Mail or not. The post office charges are zero rated, but that doesn't apply to normal businesses. When you see postage charges of a pound or even less, you do wonder what shipment method and container will be used. We all like a bargain with minimal expenditure for maximum return, but I think many people on eBay lose a sense of perspective when it comes to pricing and costs.

I agree Rob

It is my 24/7 coin shop though.

I always have a peek.

I've bought 90% of Xmas presents from the net...including mine.

I just have to get the £ off Mrs Peter and her devil daughters...I'm sure I was firing blanks.

I've bought fake turds, exploding cigarette thingies and coins. :)

I also agree with you Rob, some People think These things go cost free. I vertainly post at cost and thats without the cost of the packet included, anything over 46 Pounds goes Special delivery, under that goes signed for, but you always get People who think that postage should be 1 Pound for everything. Then there's this visibility Thing for People who post free of Charge which is a joke and an unfair Monopoly as i also pay my fees just like everyone else.

In short, i hate ebay
