Wait, wait, that is the virgin Mary in side view. If it was a McDonald's chicken nugget might bring that price after all!

Was the virgin Mary weeping?

Glad I wasn't Joseph...a very understanding man :oOn Jeremy Kyle tomorrow? :)

"We've done a DNA test... Joseph... (audience, please - let me say this, it's very very difficult). Joseph... I'm so sorry..."

:D Did Joseph have black teeth, tattoo's,drink, drug problems,on benefits and lived for texting?

...and I'm the happy winner :D

Did you have that in your watch list, or is that a bottle of Henry Weston's Vintage Cider in the post for me? :D

In my watch list :P

At least once a week I check ebay using these search words:

contemporary,Counterfeit, forged, forgery, fake, evasive, evasion, imitation, nonregal,"non regal",copies, copy, replica, pattern, exonumia, tiffen, tiffin, george iii, george 3rd,georgius + all the years 1804-1820 etc. - It stirs up loads of crap plus a few interesting items :)

Pah! I'd love a closer look at some good images when it turns up! ;)

Got it :)

That's quite a structure, very pretty actually, I wonder if we can get it a Spink equivalent? Maybe even the Sharp reference as I'm thinking it could be a shilling!

Isn't that the cross of a crown at the C In Charlie? That should limit the bust type straight away if it is! ;)

Weight 10.0 gr - 32.7 mm. = Spink 3321 :D

Bought this one a few weeks ago - different dies however not the best example...post-6657-074642200 1343946917_thumb.jpg

ANOTHER BNTA glaring error...A hammered penny listed as a halfgroat AND the complimentary incorrect Spink number! Will reveal the source if he doesn't accept my offer ;)

Suggested correct denomination! Totally ignored! 280920859647

Well respected, I believe?

Here's a well known eBay dealer mistakenly listing a standard coin as a rare variety. It is clearly not the R3 variety (which has the same obverse as 1868), although 1867 is still a scarce year.

I know there has been a lot of ribbing on here regarding BNTA members, but it isn't without warrant! I am beginning to think the logo isn't worth the computer it was designed on!

'this next statement is just for fun, please don't bust an artery getting all chewed up about it,' but I think you could MORE reliably buy a slab! ;)

I concur. I think there is probably a greater chance of a slab being identified as such than a coin being given the correct id.

It could be said that the seller is merely hoping that a newb buyer will pop along with 500 big ones and buy the coin, i assume he obviously knows what it exactly is as he identifies most coins correctly. I did ask about his Halfcrown and got this back regarding it being overgraded from where it was actually bought...........

Sorry but where a coin has come from is not infomation we pass on.

We sell large volumes of coins from all over the world and sell on commission in behalf of clients also so the answer to your question is either not known or not disclosible.

Regards,

Best Regards, Chris Taylor.

Quite likely, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt - because of the error in the Spink book which suggests that type A4 is ↑↑.

I dis reply to this message from buckscoins saying that i was'nt interested in disclosure because i knew where the coin came from and the purchase price, and that i was more interested in the extra Grade that it had aquired and if he could shed any light on it lol

I'm not sure what the issue is here. Has he changed the listing since he originally put it up on e-bay? I would probably have given it a straight VF but other than that, I'm struggling.

He's changed the listing Derek, he was trying to sell as the rarer A6 type and had it up at £500

He has some nice coins.

As long as you know what you are buying I have no problem.Including grading.

I've met Chris a few times at auctions and coin fairs and he seems pretty straightforward. His grading too is usually there or thereabouts, so given that he has changed the listing I am prepared to accept that he was thrown by the Spink's typo.

Looks nice to me but I wouldn't pay anything over £100 on Ebay unless I could be assured. The listing is not the most confident.I have told buyers that they are buying rubbish. Why oh why.?

I stick to coins I know. :(
