Just to defend Shelley. I have been supplying her with slabs etc as she sells off the collection of her partner. It's not my place to say much more but it's about as difficult time as it could possibly be for both of them with limited time remaining so perhaps in this case give her a break.

Not a judgement of character at all Flash, sorry if it came across that way. She was actually really nice to speak to and had great communication (like I said she refunded the postage both ways), I purely mean in terms of the coins as I do believe a lot are cleaned which was confirmed when I received them. 

I have no quarms about the self-slabbing either, any discernable collector should know that PCCB is not a grading company and only offer the empty tombs for personal slabbing.

Totally agree these things are worth discussing and should be brought to attention in almost all cases. This one time though is truly horrible and hopefully rules can be bent. Just to mention I'm only supplying Lighthouse Everslabs etc to the couple and have not seen the collection nor offered any identification advice.

Not at all sure why rules and which should be bent. If a coin is not as described by the seller then it should be returned if the buyer wishes. Just because a personal circumstance has come up doesn't mean too say that anyone should just accept something.

How do you actually know her circumstances are what they are? Do you personally know the seller or are you just accepting her word of what she is saying?

I'm not trying to look/be heartless here but if she has real problems at home then perhaps her full concentration should be there and not trying to flog a few coins in eBay.

Like I said, I bought something from her, it wasn't as described and it was returned, hassle free. No rule bending there. Maybe a bad turn of phrase by Flash.

Bad turn of phrase my arse - she's trying her hardest to raise some money by selling her husbands coins. He's dying fast and is trying to communicate the types to her. They have no money whatsoever, dying does tend to curtail your ability to work. She knows nothing about coins so will make mistakes. All I'm saying is just let this one go, this one time will you.

It's just a discussion on a forum to you lot, believe me it's upsetting her even more and yes she has noticed as some vicious little twt ebay messaged her to complain and quoted this forum.

Flash. Just a thought:

If they're badly in need of raising some funds from the sale a collection maybe you could help her out by (gently) suggesting realistic asking prices? As things stand most, if not all, of the 'Buy It Now's are unlikely to sell. For all her efforts better they get some money than none at all? Please excuse me putting in my tuppence worth. It's a sad story and I just wanted to offer a solution which might help.

Or get them into LCA next time round. The cut off for submissions is 7th Feb. The money would appear by the end of March, which is likely to be a bigger number than that from ebay listings. Realism is the key here.

If going down this route then tell them why. It might result in a few extra bids if there is a good cause. Prior to Whitton's sale in 1943 the catalogue reminded bidders that the funds were to pay for his medical treatment, therefore would they please consider bidding an increment higher than they would otherwise do.
