Great coin Scottishmoney. 'They have a lot of nice coins for auction. I have always fancied a Noble. This one would be great, but again it's out my currrent budget!

P.s. how do you post your picture?. My ones always come up small with a message saying Attached thumbnail(s)?

I use Mozilla Firefox for a browser, not IE, it is easy to save a link to a photo location in FF, just click the right button on the mouse and save image location as and then post the link to the image via the image link thingy on the menu bar in Predecimal.

IE is not easy to do this with, in fact I am not sure how it works or if it does in IE. I have been using FF now for about 6 months and like it a lot better navigationally and functionally than IE.

So for Hussulo's lovely Noble, I can do the following:

Correct great coin normally they have pest, this coin has survived in good state with no corosion. I have a great problem grading tin money. The majority even in good condition are weak on the bust. How do u grade the picture which u posted?

As you say tricky to grade. The auction claims EF.

I go for NVF.

Hmm... I'd say nVF would be fair for a regular coin, but for this issue which tends to be a bit naff and scarce in such condition I think I could be persuaded to go higher.

Whether it's EF or not, I suspect Colin Cook wouldn't have turned up his nose at this one and it may well be as good as you'd get!

Always dangerous grading early farthings.(say pre 1724).

I actually don't like buying them blind on a dealers grade

Even the premier farthing site I don't agree with some of the grades offered.

This particular coin is a beauty and I would give it GVF or CGS 58.

It is up there with the best.

Colin's tin farthing collection was unbelivable. You can see Colin's Peck 533 on his web site. GVF with lots of lustre, so yes he may have passed over this coin for his collection. Still a mighty fine coin.

My gripe is grading "for the issue", for early farthings the best known grade can be GF. Do we want to manipulate that to be EF? Should scarcety affect grade?
