Opinions wanted on the grade of this 1/4d.

The attached item in my own opinion is VG pourus & cleaned.

It will be interesting to see how CGS grade pre 1724 copper.

I'd go with that. Shame about the cleaning.

This person has been discussed before. If you follow the UK grading link in his listing, you will see that grading changes at 1797 and what was fine becomes very fine for prior dates. It's a pity the 1 of the date isn't missing, otherwise it could be unc being from 674AD.

Sorry, forgot to grade it. Good or a bit better with the added note that it has the texture of a mouldy Ginger Nut. So if it doesn't sell, he could always eat it.

would agree with Peter on this one, VG maybe slightly better but pitted and very dirty, looks like loads of gunk between the legend, not helping to preserve the coin at all. The light areas may just be the result of flash photograhy, the actual coin could be darker. I have never heard of this seller so cannot comment on his or her`s reputation.

For me the wear only brings it down to fine, but truly horrible and seemingly cleaned with an angle grinder. Aptly summed up by the link which includes the words '... CHARLES II FART...'
