Once I had the opportunity to but an 1937 proof set (crown to maundy penny) for £120, but I didn't have enough money! Lol.

Hi everyone,

Im just curious how long you have all been collecting coins, and what made you become a coin collector. For me it was just the sheer number of varieties and the beauty of coins. I've been collecting coins since I was 7, i am now nearly 15!

I have only recently (about 2 month - 3 months) started collecting, but i have had a few nice coins since i was about 7-8...i have about 20 foreign coins, and about 400-500 pre-decimal coins...i am trying to collect mostly farthings, pennys and silver threepences...and when i have most/all pennies (appart from the 1933 one) from 1860 - 1967 then i think i will start collecting american quarters or dimes...i am 13 years old, and for my 14th b'day i am hoping to recieve £300 or more, and then i can put in £90 to the £300 so i can get a coronal cabinet...and the coin i would most like to have is probably a guinea or a broad...

I sold a 1937 set without the crown or case, 2 days ago for £110.00

If the case was not nice, £120 was probably not really a bargain. The spink price is really for absolutely perfect coins and case, strictly speaking, with no toning...Although that's near enough impossible because the inside of the case tones the coins.

The Coronet is nice but it weighs 25kg and god knows how much more full. You'd have to move it around on a sack truck!

Where do you live then? I live in Brentwood in Essex. There are loads of fairs near where I live, and a few decent coin shops.

I was born in Brentwood, but now I live in Southampton. Small world!!

I started collecting after my dad showed me his old collection in a cardboard box... lots of WWII European zinc coins and a few older. Like you I collected whatever people gave me. I took a break for about 10 years and I've been back into it big time for about four years now.

I collect almost anything, but with the aim of illustrating the history of places. So, things like occupations, economy issues in different metals, swiftly withdrawn designs are all really interesting. The different denominations are also part of the story.

I lived in Pilgrims Hatch from when I was born until I was 11 years old when I moved to Kelvedon Hatch. I lived in Crow Green Road. Where abouts did you live in Pilgrims Hatch?
