IOW Euro

Recommended Posts

Back in 1997 the Isle of Wight council issued a silver IOW Euro with HMY Brittania on it.

This coin was widely available for a short time then was abruptly withdrawn from the places that sold it-tourist shops and the local newspaper shop and such like.

As far as I know it had no monentary value-any one know why it was withdrawn?

Regards

Steve

(in the now dry IOW :D )

I do have one-not for sale, should anyone be interested in a fuller description.

The story I seem to recall was they were'nt government approved so they were withdrawn, but not before a good few were sold.My wife bought one for a chap she knew in London,he asked her to,so they must have been reasonably well advertised.

I just wondered if anyone knew the official story.

Regards

Steve
