I wondered if anyone has seen one of these before. The storey goes that there was an employee where my Grandad worked who made these for his workmates. To purchase one, you had to take 2 halfcrowns to him, he would make the ring out of one and keep the other as payment. The cupro-nickel does turn your finger green after a relatively short period  , perhaps a silver one would have been better :) !!

I must admit it is a fascinating item, I assume the coin was stretched into a thimble shape and then the top of the dome removed!!

There was a street vendor in San Francisco some years ago that made rings like this from Half Dollars and Dollars. He first cut a round disk out of the center, about the size of a dime. Then the coin was forced onto a sizing bar until the hole was stretched to the right size. After that he hammered the edge until it took on a ring shape. You could get an extrenal design or just leave the coin showing. I have a few made of Liberty Walking Halfs.

I just wonder who started it.

I think that they are quite nice!

I've seen them made from florins with a nice rounded finish.

Also copper pennies (trench art)...now that would give you green finger.
