1861 halfpenny, missing digit

Filled die, or a weak punch or a combination. You do sometimes see weak numbers (with a trace of the number there) but that one is very obvious and interesting as such.

I assume that in this case 'interesting' means perhaps sell it as a single item rather than in a batch? In case you are unaware, I am disposing of these coins. I am trying to make up lots of £5 or more (I don't get the point in selling lots at 99p or so).

PS. The wife glazed over with the coin stuff, but was quite taken with your cow pic. I know I don't look my best first thing but................

I knew her personally (the cow, not your wife!)

I expect it might make £5 on its own with good pictures. It is a very very weak '8' and the rest of the digits are ok. Who knows with ebay though, it'll probably not do anything much! Go on then, I'll give you a fiver for it, and add it to my 'unusual' pile.

Have you got any silver coins, or anything well above average. If so, I'd like to save your time on ebay and make you a fair offer for them.

Hi Chris,

Yes I have, but I have not got round to looking at them yet. I split everything into silver / copper & brass first; about 3 plastic crates of each. I have been sorting and selling the copper, brass & odds n sods first. I didn't go to a dealer or collector first because I reckoned they would look at all and say 'I want £500 just to sort that lot out'. It's early days and I do not know what will turn up, and sometimes it even gets interesting!

I will be putting queries on here, so I am sure you will pick them up. I am selling on ebay as rich.h.38, so you can see what I am sorting/selling. Please feel free to comment, question and make requests. Also, bear in mind that although I grew up with coins, I do not know much about them.

Rich
