Unknown hammered coin

Recommended Posts

This a hammered coin, found, I believe in East Anglia. 20mm. It is very slightly mis-shapen and a little dark, hence I have lightened the picture as my scanner likes neither of those things. Can anyone id it for me? Cheers

With the state of the obverse, it's difficult, but I'd guess a crusader coin. Check out this website (click on links, bottom left) It shows various coins of very similar appearance.

The two Lis on the obv and cross with lis in alternate quarters suggest medieval France to me. Bit like this one maybe ...

I'd agree with TomGoodheart on this one (although Charles II of Anjou is also similar) and the condition does it no favours :D
