Farthing enquiry

Recommended Posts

not my area i'm afraid, i know several minor varities exist, but CoinCraft makes no mention of what they are.

So wait till Oli arrives, he's the farthing guy.

Well it's obviously either an unrecorded variety or the coin is just too worn to see a dot or a k.

Some of the varieties I know:

  • Curls rendered with incuse lines
  • Circular incuse dot on shoulder instead of incuse K.

Hope this helps.

I love darkened farthings, much nicer than the bright ones. I have a 1901 UNC one, that i'm very proud of! B)

No, I'm working my way back from 1956; I'm in the middle of the 30s now.

Least expensive ---> Most expensive!

thats quite a good way of doing it :)

the reason i have all these farthings is because i bought a load of them for £10 off of ebay :) they are worth atleast £50 though, with a lusterous 1806 farthing :)

Judging by your grading questions however, I'd go back and regrade

Oli, when you get to the early 1920s I reckon it's worth getting more picky... I've been disappointed by how weakly struck many of them are around then, espacially around Britannia's shoulder... try and hold out for some sharp ones!

Yes, go back and regrade... I nearly always change my mind a long while later, and almost always downwards... it usually has to be long enough for me to forget how much I paid! :)

Lustrous 1806? Are you sure it hasn't been cleaned or dipped in something Master? Sounds too good to be true...

I shall do that! As I said, I want the best examples (within reason i.e BU)
