commerorative gold

Hi all,

This is my first time on the forum but I am hopeful that it will prove to be an interesting experience.I have collected coins for some years and several years ago I aquired the following 1993 coronation anniversary gold coins which are apparently a complete set of all gold proof coins issued to celebrate that event.I can't get a valuation on some of these coins and would be grateful if someone could advise me on where I could get a valuation or give me an idea of what they might be worth and whether it is worth disposing of them as a set or individually.I can't provide photos as the coins are still sealed in their original mint bags

They are as follows :1993 Belize 500 dollar gold proof - issue limit 100 - 47.54gm 22 carat

1993 Caman Islands gold proof 250 dollar - issue limit 100 - ditto

1993 Faulkland Islands £50 gold proof - issue limit 100 - ditto

1993 New Zealand 5 dollar gold proof - issue limit 500 - ditto

1993 UK gold proof crown - issue limit 2500 - 39.94 22 carat

1993 Alderney £25 gold proof - issue limit 1000 -8.51gm 22 carat

1993 Jamaica 500 dollar gold proof - issue limit 500 - 11.34 --.900 content.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

If they were mine I'd take gold value for them, with gold being so high at the moment. A couple of the less obscure ones (e.g the UK one and the NZ one) may be easier to sell for a bit more than bullion, but in my opinion it's not worth the bother and the wait. You'd have no trouble finding someone to give you bullion value for them in an hour or less.

Thanks Chris , I may take your advice but perhaps not just yet.I've also got a load of sovereigns to get rid of as well so if you could suggest a company in the uk that would give me a fair price I would be grateful.

I am dissapointed that the low issue of some of these commeroratives does not appear to enhance their value much but I'm not an expert and have just been picking up these coins cheap over the years.

Low issue numbers are relative. You have to ask yourself if 100 people really could not live without a 1993 Cayman Islands gold proof 250 dollar coin for example? There may be some people that wouldn't mind such a coin, but the chances are you'd have a hard job finding 100 people willing to give you more than gold value (plus say 5%) for it. And without that demand, the value stays low. Perhaps in 50 years it'll be different, but then in 50 years gold should theoretically be a bit higher too.

The UK coin would probably be of higher value if there were only 100 of them, but they made 2500 so again, are there 2500 people that really really want that particular coin? Enough to pay even £50 or £100 over gold value I mean.

Regarding sovereigns I may well be interested. You'll see I've listed some gold coins here:

So I could do with some more, preferrably Geo V or earlier and higher grades if you have any that fit that description. I also work with a pretty well known UK gold coin dealer. Perhaps you could PM me with details.
