Hi all, I am new here, I have just came across some gold coins. One is a sovereign George V, 1911, one a half sovereign George V. 1914, and one half sovereign Queen Victoria 1899. My question is how do you tell where they were minted. I have seen various ones for sale with the place of mint detailed, are there marks on them depicting this, if so where do I find them?Hope someone can help. Regards, Ian.

On the Saint George side on the ground below the horses front right hoof is sometimes a mint letter. If no letter is there then they were minted in London (which is usually the most common mint).

If you do have a letter there are a few different ones:

C = Canadian Royal Mint

M = Melbourne

P = Pretoria

S = Sydney

SA = South Africa (but won't apply to your dates)

I = Inida (but also won't apply to your dates)

Thanks for your speedy reply Chris! The Queen Victoria coin doesn,t have any marks. Both the George V. have them, but I can,t make them out with my magnifying glass, I will have to get a stronger one.
