Maundy(?) coin, George 2nd

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I'm new.

I just very recently got into coin collecting, having custody of my recently deceased grandparents coins - it's really addictive once you start, isn't it?

I'm trying to hunt down any info at all on this tiny little silver coin we've got. I think it would qualify as Fine, grade-wise, family legend would have it that it is a maundy coin - its identical to the one penny maundy spink ref: 3716 (2006 edition). Is there any way to tell if its a maundy coin as opposed to a circulating one? Apologies for the lack of photo.

In 1752 the Maundy coins given out in the ceremony would have been the same as the ones circulated. So it's not strictly speaking a Maundy coin unless it was once part of the set of 4, or becomes at some point in the future part of a set of 4!

Welcome, by the way.
