Ebay seller and postage charges

Recommended Posts

I thought I would post this thread in here as it's really just a bit of a winge although any contructive comments would be appreciated.

I have recently won two coins on ebay, there was no mention of postal discounts for multiple wins so I guess I should not have expected any. This guy wanted £2.95 1st class recorded which is a bit steep but if you don't want to pay the postage you shouldn't bid so.... I won two coins and the checkout came up with £5.90  I then emailed to enquire if haveing won two auctions would I be elagible for a discount. Deathening silence, no reply so after a couple of days I paid up seperately using paypal and giving two delivery addresses one for each coin. I bet you are all ahead of me now.. yes they both arrived today at the one address in the same envelope.:angry::angry:

I guess the next move is to email him again and say hey what are you up to I think you should give me some money back. If that gets no response I guess my only option is to neg him.

I have never had that happen with a seller, usually they are pleased as punch to combine shipping and make a happy customer.

I always find that quoting the price that they'll have to pay at the post office helps, usually £1.24 for 1st Recorded. Always makes them feel guilty! ;)

I was preparred to swallow the £2.95 for one coin but £5.90 for two is taking the p!$$.

If your seller doesn't accommodate, but you are happy with the coins, I would leave a positive feedback, but note the overcharge on the postage, and rate the transaction with the stars accordingly. I did this a couple of months ago with a Canadian seller that charged C$12 to send item registered from Canada, then turned around and sent it US Priority mail from his USA address, cost US $4.95. The item was great, but I was chaffed they took a profit on the postage.

This reared its head again lately. I was pleased with the coin, but the postage, normal internal UK, was quoted as £5. I tried to give neutral feedback and stated I thought the postage excessive, but fleebay insisted on a 'dispute' and would not allow the feedback to stand. Anyway, as it happens, I was OK with the overall price but objected to 'positive feedback' so I've just not sent any! <_<

So it appears the practice is widespread and condoned by ebay!

I wouldn't have bid on it in the first place if the postage was too high. I cannot get over how many people here in the USA charge a whopping $8 or about £4.75 to post a banknote. I won't bid on their items period. That is just usury, and they often will spend no more than $2 to mail it.

Where you can hit them on the feedback, if you cannot give a neutral is to leave a positive, but note the outrageous postal expense and hit them in the ratings star thing they have in the feedback module. I did that with the seller above that charged $12(for registered) but spent $4.95 to post the item via priority mail.

Right now I am dealing with a seller I paid like seconds after the auction, two weeks pass, and still no item. I love these idiots.
