Hi to all. Could anyone of you good souls take a look at this coin any give me your thoughts on it. I am a total novice and believe i may have a nice find, but would like an experience eye to take a look.

It is a Halfpenny which i think was minted in Bristol as a sample to send to America in the hope of obtaining the minting contract in around 1790-95. It has around the edge "Birmingham Nailsea & Swansea". Many thanks in advance.

Nutler,

The coin you have is a "post Colonial" issue of a Liberty and Security Token Half Penny. It is referred too as a pre-Federal issue in the guide book. There are nine (9) differant varieties of the coin, and it comes in dated and un-dated versions.

Yours is what is known as the "Birmingham edge" variety. In fine condition, the coin has a retail value of $100 to $170 US$.

Regards,

Bob C.
