Cased crowns

I have a 1981 Royal Wedding crown that comes in a hard plastic case, issued by Barclay's bank. My scanner is off-line right now, so I can't show an image, but it is similar to http://ebay.sdsimon.com/NZ_1987.JPG .

I have seen other UK crowns (including the dreaded Churchill) in similar cases, but without any name of bank on it. I am assuming these are all made and distributed on the secondary market, and have nothing to do with the BRM, correct?? Assuming they are secondary market, are there many different issuers of these cases?? I have thought that if I could get all of the crowns in these cases (being all of uniform size) I could mount them in a shadow box to display on the wall in my office.

I guess my best bet would be to begin searching eBay for them??

I don't know if they are unofficial, but I would say yes, cos most things like that would have the name of a bank on them, wouldn't they? Yes, it's worth looking on eBay for them. Theis the kind of stuff you're looking for?

I have a feeling some of them went into cases officially, I know the 1983 Pound coin did and the 1953 Crown did.

I'm pretty sure the 1981 Charles and Di Crown, 1977 Silver Jubilee Crown and 1980 Queen mother Crown went into plastic cases at the mint.....

Although I could be wrong, they could be un-official bank issued cases, but there are alot of them around, which would support the official theory.

Some of the more recent commemoratives have card surrounds rather than those plastic cases which appeared for the first time with the 1953 coronation crown. The 1990 Queen Mother 90th, for example, or the 1997 Queen's golden wedding, come in sealed plastic bubbles in a card surround. The lack of uniformity might make it more difficult for you to display them.
