Coins that have not been stamped correctly

Recommended Posts

Guest freemycatfish

Hi.

Let me say two things. This is my first post and I know nothing about coins. That said, here is my interesting find.

I was given, in change, a damaged 20p coin. The coin is in very, very good condition and is marked as a normal 20p coin on one side. The Queens head side of the coin is perfect. The date is 2008. On the other side, things get a little strange. The border of the coin says TWENTY PENCE as normal. The three lion markings however have been stamped to one side. This means that the body of the centre lion is truncated at the edge of the coin on the left hand side. The lion beneath it has only the far extremity of the rear leg showing and part of the tail. The third lion is missing. On the right hand side, behind the lions tail as it were, the coin is blank, with no marking at all for one third of the coin face and up to the border which has the words TWENTY PENCE marked inside it.

My questions are:

1. Is this a common happening?

2. Is the coin rare?

3. Is the coin fake?

4. Is the coin valuable?

I have no means of producing a picture I am afraid.

Any help/Info would be good.

Just a normal 20p for 2008 and 2009. New design commonly known as a lions arse.
