1789 British coin

Hi this is my first post so I hope I'm posting in the right place! I have a coin dated 1789 which I had been presuming was British but am now puzzled as to whether it is after checking the descriptions on this site...

it is a copper/gold colour though tarnished black, measures 29mm across the widest point. the writing around the edge is hard to make out but on one side it has a large shield in the centre with 17 to the left of it and 89 to the right of it. The reverse has a central large image though too worn to say for certain what it is. I wonder if anyone has any ideas as to what it may be? Thank you

If you haven't got the facilities to post a picture, I would mention that there really wasn't much going on in British coinange in 1789; the guinea, its fractions and a few maundy bits but that was about it. Possibly a trade token, although most of those were dated a few years later.

this is the reverse of the coin, much harder to make out due to wear and tear. Best pics I could get, turns out coins are tricky things to photograph!

Looks to be this:

1789 'Cronebane' Halfpenny. The obverse reads CRONEBANE HALFPENNY around the bishop. The reverse reads ASSOCIATED IRISH MINE COMPANY around a coat of arms. The edge should read PAYABLE AT CRONEBANE LODGE.

Well, the condition of yours is quite poor. So I would not expect much at all, maybe a pound or two, if that.

A pound!! I've scrapped better copper tokens than that! The condition is absolutely dire, but at least you now know what it is.
