Traders weight

Recommended Posts

This looks to be a traders' weight, but other than that the only think I can make out is the word "SUFFOLK" - does anyone have basic information about this pieces? Lead? era? What exactly was it used for, how etc? the letters/symbols?

Looking at the rear it looks to me as though it could be a button.

Oh my God!

Never mind, it looks military so may yet have an interesting tale to tell.

Definitely looks like a trade weight to me, might be worth having a look on UKDFD, it is a database for detectorists, you may be able to find a match with some of the identified trade weights

Thanks. I knew someone would finally come along and confirm to me what it is :P - hope I can identify it on that site.

I am guessing it will be a4 drams of either George or William IV due to the 'IV' - Suffolk might be it's place of manufacture or where it was first tested.
