2004 two pence with reverse upside down

Hi! I have found recently a strange coin in my change. It looks like a 'normal' 2004 two pence, but its reverse is upside down. I can't find any information about this type of coin. Is it a forgery? Mint error? Can anybody help me?

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

It is impossible to give an opinion without seeing a scan of the coin.

I am assuming that it is a standard UK coin with the Prince of Wales's feathers on the reverse. With a 180 degree die axis misalignment it would be a very unusual Royal Mint error.

Although the forger's coin of choice is the one pound, I do know of examples of counterfeit 50p, 10p and 2p coins, although why anybody would bother with the lower denominations is beyond me. The only 2p forgery I have seen was obviously fake.

Could you possibly post a picture of your coin?

Welcome again! Thanks for your reply. I have attached below three photos of my coin - the best i could take using my camera.

First two photos show obverse and reverse of my coin. The third shows both sides of the coin in one picture (reverse should be visible in the mirror)

That is a really interesting coin! Thanks for posting the pictures. It certainly appears to be a genuine coin, and as a Royal Mint error would certainly generate some interest among collectors. I'm sure that there are others on this forum who will appreciate it. Great coin!

Hi! I have just found another strange coin. This time it is a 1998 bi-metallic two pounds coin. If You look at the photos You will see that the image of the Queen on inner silver-coloured disc is on the wrong side of the coin!!! I think I will start my own collection of odd coins now :-)

hah nice, might have rotated, the early £2 had troublesome centres
