Greek administration coin

Hi, After a nightmare trying to find out what a small coin was, I believe we have a Greek administration coin. Approxamately 15 mm accross with Britannia facing to the right and a winged lion with a quiver of arrows on the reverse. it is dated 1848. Can anyone confirm that I am on the right track, and tell me the denomination and possibly the current value if anything.

Yes, sounds about right. If it has Greek writing and Britannia then I think it hails from the Greek Ionian Islands (from memory).

Many thanks Chris. I'm guessing they are common as muck then? Should I look deeper, or file it away for another 150 years?

They are pretty common. I think (again from memory) there is a half lepta and a full lepta. Sounds like yours is the half as it's quite small. Usually they are just worth a couple of quid in average condition. But there may be scarcer dates. Anyone got a Krause (world coin book), mine is not to hand?

Yup its an Ionian Islands 1 Lepta - Dated 1848 - Krause Ref - KM34 13,483,000 minted

Two varieties, one with a stop after the date one without. The one with the stop is a bit scarcer.

The one with the stop after the date is worth about 10% on the above prices

Bear in mind my Krause is the 2001 Edition
