Could anyone tell me why the 1937 proof sovereign is rarer than the other proofs (£5, £2, half sovereign) even though they all have the same mintage of 5001.

Porobaby because sovereigns are collected more and are a more uninterupted series than the other denominations. I had a 1937 Sov a while ago/ Did you know the odd '1' (of 5001) were given to the king?

I think you're mixing that up with her stamps which are generally agreed to be the best in the World. Her collection belongs to her however, not the State. Btw, spiffing coins Sylvester!

I know that she has some very rare sets such as the 1953 proof set, and am I correct in saying that she has an Edward VIII set as well?

well the quarter noble was from Rendal Ingram, and the sixpence was a killer deal from a coin stall in an antiques building in York.

I forget the name but i've bough coins from her before, all reasonably priced.

What can i say? I just love the things.

The reason why i've been able to buy these is because i've just sold every single one of my British coins dated 1816 or after to Chris, except for 4 sixpences (1816, 1825, 1826 & 1834), a gothic florin (1864) and a pattern Edward VIII Crown.

I'll hang onto the newer six cos i like them.

Nice! I'm gonna have a spend on some dealers soon with a view to getting half-way to my goal by July and fully completing it by December. It should be fairly easy; it's not that the coins aren't there, it's that the money isn't!

i've got it the other way around as well, not only is the money not there, but quite frequently neither are the coins. So how many 1710 sixpences have i seen for sale? (none!) [i've seen more decent 1858 sovereigns for sale]

Some time i think i should have stuck at collecting shield reverse sovereigns of the London mint, i would have had half of them by now at least. I know one dealer that always have 40 or 50 or so on sale at any one time, mostly in F-GVF.

I've got to update the 1732 Roses and Plumes one, and i've got to add a 1703 VIGO one.

Might need a top (not high, but top!) grade Victorian Young head.

Then there's just James II and i'll have owned every major type of milled sixpence since Charles II - Elizabeth II.

(Despite the fact i've just sold all the post William IV sixpences off)

No I don't think so, I think that one may have been from my friend Richard (www.coinsforsale.co.uk). I can't be sure though, I'm rubbish with keeping records of where I get things from!
