This collection was left by my father; sadly he passed away last July. My children are not interested and I myself do not feel I can give it any place in my cabinets at home. That's sad.

Unfortunately, I can't brighten your day as the coins don't appeal to me. But they are typical of much that is offered on eBay and you could do a lot worse than put the lots up on there. You might be pleasantly surprised by the price being paid for silver now, so those halfcrowns might do quite well. Who knows, recruiting your kids to do the eBay side of it might even kindle their interest!

Thanks all. Yes I agree it is rather sad. Dad loved his coins. The best I could do was catalogue them. They were all stored in boxes, most still in jiffy bags, and stacked in cupboards.

There doesn't appear to be anything of value (I did look for the silver 1945 3d)

Peckris is probably right in shifting them on Ebay.

A couple of rarer coins are the 1950 1d,1952 6d, 1959 scottish shilling & 1949 3d.

Unfortunatly the majority of coins are "well circulated"

For your information 1920-1947 is 50% silver and currently goes for around 10x face so a halfcrown (12 1/2p) will be worth £1.25 in silver.

Pre 1920 silver is 92.5% silver and worh approx 18x face.

You may get some interest on the Victorian bun 3d's as these are quite rare (even on Ebay)

Yes, once again sorry to hear of your loss. In addition to what others have said, a few things have value - the KN pennies, the groats (4d) and surprisingly the Whitman folders which in some instances have more value than the coins they contain! I have checked the pennies themselves and nothing seems to stand out as an obvious rarity but they are worn and it is still possible, if unlikely. The proof sets will always go for something but realistically you aren't looking at a huge total.
