Shilling or guinea (1710) Anna Del Gratia

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

New to the forum so hello B)

Looking to see if anyone knows anything about this coin that has unfortunately been tuned into some sort of brooch.

As far as i can see it is possibly a shilling or maybe a guinea.

The diameter is 2.5cm and it does have a nice goldish colour.

I have attached aq picture

Thanks

McLean

Just thought i would ask another question...If the coin is of value, what difference does it make that it is now a badge? Does this devalue it to the point that it is only worth the metal it is made of or does it have some value as a piece of jewellery/antique?

I think this might be made of 22ct Gold, and i find it hard to believe that someone would fake a gold coin in this way.

Any advice at all hugely appreciated

Size- wise it's a Guinea, the shilling reverse doesn't have the crossed scepters. It look a bit crued to be a coin and would have a toothed boarder which your pictures don't show. Does it feel heavy for it's size which gold would do.

Hi Gary, many thanks for your comments. Yes i agree it is a little weird that there does not seem to be any trace of the toothed border at all. The coin does feel reasonably heavy to me for a coin this size, although i am by no means an expert.

I have found what this coin would appear to be here:

...but as you said this specimen does have a border. Maybe someone will be able to shed light on this mystery, possibly a forgery?

Cheers
