Take a look at this 1919KN penny offered on e bay. It appears to be lustrous, yet is pretty obviously another worn coin.

How has the vendor been able to make the very lifelike lustrous appearance ? Photoshopping of some sort ?

Doesn't this amount to misrepresentation ?

Maybe, but I've never seen toning so closely approximating to lustre before.

That's not Photoshop - if it was, you'd have something looking much better than that. It's been artificially lustred in the past and that's now wearing, as davidrj says.

You often get that appearance with polished coins when using a scanner. If he was using a camera and daylight, you'd see something rather different.

I'm not so sure. The artificial lustre - if that's what it is - is pretty clear in certain places (it's not an overall effect like a scanner would give) - check out the exergue, the folds in the material, and between the legend, especially. There's a pinkness there, which in other places is much darker, nearer to bronze.
