Is it worth the €498 he wants for it? personally i'm not to much into copper, not a great picture either but it states EF+ and its a rare one i believe, i know there is lovers of Farthings out there

The pictures aren't very good, but isn't it a toothed border both sides? It doesn't look like a TB/BB mule which is the rare variety. If a TB then it's out by a factor of x100 and worth about Euros 4.98 (maybe a little more)

I am with Rob, toothed border & toothed border and not the mule. This is just from the picture but I feel this the case - IMO do not pay that money for it. This is not because I collect the occasional farthing but rather from conviction.

Not to worry Vicky, i'm not going to pay €500 for copper, i was just curious what everyone else thought about it. I'll email the dealer and ask if he can send me better quality pictures, if i get them i'll post them here

Yes definitely another standard 1860 farthing being passed as a mule :(

Sometimes British coins in foreign climbs can be had at bargain prices. But you really have to watch out for the dealers that always seem to assume they have the rarest variety. And in Germany, watch out for toot which has been dipped, polished and scrubbed red!

I will reply to your email re the book Azda. Azda is in Germany, but it's a shame there isn't an Asda in Germany!

I am with Rob as well, even though its not a good picture it appears to be TB, TB both sides.

Amen to that Chris, am missing all those ready made meals and craving a packet of walkers, even the Frau (who is Deutsch) misses asda etc, i think its those big old asda trifles she misses, had a parcel from the motherland over xmas, its all gone now lol, needless to say a little weight was gain and the gürtel was loosened ;-)

I'll await your payment details for the book.

Danke Ihnen fae a Scotsman ;-)

(yes there is 2 of us on site now)

Back to that farthing, i've emailed and asked for better quality pix, will wait and see if he replies, no doubt it will be at least tomorrow before he does.

Don't get me started on the appalling choice of cheap and nasty food in Supermarkets over here! My girlfriend, also German, loves a nice Cheesecake (the sweet type), Yorkshire pud, soft white bread etc. I import Jam, marmalade and Readybrek!

And, the influence of the bloody church preventing shops from opening on Sundays also infuriates me. If god had Sunday off after he'd knocked up a universe in 6 days, he must have been hungry, so I bet it was only so he could go shopping on the sabbath!

Sorry to go off topic there.

Lol, they just voted for the Sunday openings and only Munich voted against it, so no opening on Sundays hahaha, so we must make do with mad rush Saturdays when everyman and his dog is doing there weekly shop, stressed to the max, barging you outta the way with their trolleys and being arrogant ********

Don't get me started about the ubahns and Germans, why are th so stressed?

Sorry, am off my soapbox now :-) If you're ever in Munich, stop by for a beer and wurst ;-) Hofbrauhaus is always open and room for a 1000 leute

Bavaria says Gruss Gott and the whole of the country has to suffer for it!

And what about the lack of queueing ability!? Have you noticed that in McDonands and similar places where there are more than 2 counters that the local bevolkerung sort of queue in one line along the length of the counter instead of in 3/4 separate lines going straight back from each till? If you try to queue the right way, it can take hours to get served. I find that quite comical and very illogical.

Hope the winter doesn't last too long this year.

I'm just south of Chemnitz. Not many Wessis have ever dared venture this far East.

Ah the old East, and we're paying to rebuild it, it'll be better than the old west shortly. Very cheap to live there, you'd get a culture shock if you came down here, costs a bloody fortune to live here, 2nd most expensive city in Germany. Any jobs going up that way lol?

Wie ist dein Deutsch? Ich bin in Deutsche schule jetzt, aber es ist sehr schwerig sprache zu sprechen. If you ever venture this way, you're more than welcome to drop in, just don't forget to bring some marmalade :-))

I think we must start a new thread GERMANS ONLY or something, we're totally screwing up my starter thread here lol

I think some parts are probably already better off than the old West. I've been to Bamberg. A world heritage site, and in the middle it's very well presented. Around the edges though, it looks like Brixton during the riots.

There are enough jobs here if you're not a lazy mullet haired, denim-jacket-wearing antisocial baby collector.

I'm from London originally. The first generation of a long line of Perkins' that decided to move away to somewhere you can live in a whole house for the same price as a 9' x 9' bedsit!

And my German is better than yours by the looks of it ;-). I've been here since about 2003.

I've been here since 2007, but the Frau speaks great English and we had sky tv just before we moved, so i was learning jack, but i decided last year that i must learn something apart from zwei maß bitte.

I'd like to be a coin dealer, any jobs going in that direction? left the denim jacket and mullet back in the late 90s, so am good to go, although we did have a new arrival last year, picture attached

Looks a happy young chap.

If you were nearer I'm sure I could make use of another English speaker to help with my little empire. What's the winter like in Muenchen? I know it's usually better than Chemnitz. Safe for a UK car without winter tyres? I buy and sell the odd car but at this time of year I can't get them over to me because of the weather. This year it seems the whole of Europe is suffering.

Given this is the wife's home town I think that is most unfair. As a city of great culture featuring nearly 100 breweries in the gemeinde, I consider it to be something approaching paradise. To make it look like Brixton after the riots, you must have visited many of the small clusters of breweries found every km or two in just about every inhabited part of this area. Treat yourself to a few pints and some fodder at Brauerei Knoblach in Schammelsdorf and don't forget to order a taxi before you start. :D

Munich so far has been quite unaffected by the snow, just a sprinkling here and there which is really surprising considering we're sitting virtually on the Alps (90mins away) i can actually see them from the town i live in on a clear day. If you are ever needing some help of some sorts Chris let me know.

I know an insurance company that insure a UK registered car all year. Only problem is it's technically against the rules because you have to register cars here after 3 months (not that anyone checks), and you have to go back annually for the MOT. I get around that by changing cars regularly. Had some success actually finding a niche type of RHD car that sell very well here.

Rob: Bamberg is very nice in the middle and I have no doubt your wife was born in a nice part. The girlfriend's family know people there. I've been a few times. Don't really like beer so how ever many breweries there are have zero pull!

We holidayed in the summer near Bad Mergintheim staying with friends. Visited Rothenburg to buy some Christmas decorations and Wurzburg, some nice coutryside around the area. One observation, are the Germans allways pissed as I don't think I met a sober one, certainly make the Brits look like amateurs when it comes to putting it away. We went with some Dutch friends and even they couldn't keep up.

Difference between a pissed German and a pissed Brit, a pissed German can get pissed and go home happy as Larry because he can take 3 or 4 litres of strong brew, a pissed Brit has 2 beers and thinks he's Rocky Balboa and will wanna abuse anyone in his path, including the local kebab shop owner and the taxi driver who's taxi he puked up in due to the fact he can't take his alcohol.

Just a few observations since i've been here, oh and for the record, a drunk Scotsman here in Munich last year was drunk on the streets of Munich, the local police lifted his, let him sober up and gave him a 750€ fine for his trouble and his plane ticket home, this is why no one gives the police in Munich any grief, hence it is the 5th safest city in the world.

Ok, this thread was started about a T/B border Farthing, i have a reply from the seller with a picture and i must say the picture is crap to say he wants someone to spend €500 on the coin, as other posters stated, i don't think it is what he says it is. Take a look
