still raising funds

I'm still trying to raise some funds for my purchases. I have been trying to offload a few items at my local auction house. I am not sure whether it would be better to try and sell them on e-bay. I gave them a few books and a bit of old jewellry and they said I might get about £100 hammer price for it all. E-bay seems a good place for postable general items, I tend to think that higher quality items should do better at auction, but does a provincial auction house get a wide enough customer base to secure a good price?

Personally i think Ebay gets a wider audience, depending on what it is you are selling. Gold jewellery always gets cash (scrap value) I know a lot of people here knock it, but if you are looking to sell items then i think its the best place for not so high ticket items. I tend not to buy coins from there, although i did buy 1 yesterday from RLC from this site, i tend to go for safe options if i do buy coins from Ebay (which isn't often)

I haven't used a provincial auction house since the last débacle : hammer price was (I thought) a fair £30 for what I was selling. The cheque I received? £17. That's just grand larceny.

I'd say eBay is your best bet providing the items are saleable. Fees are a fraction of auction houses (no staff or premises) and providing you begin your auction at a sensible time - e.g. 10PM Friday night or 10AM Saturday morning, and not mid-morning weekday - you should do ok.
