Ahh the painful outbid, just think to your self that the highest bidder actually had a highest bid of €550 and just won it for €460. That usually works for me!

Thanks Mat, but unfortunately i know what it went for, and losing out on it for 60 bucks is irritating, it was a real nice coin, don't know how long it will be before another comes along in that high grade

Well, it is nice especially the rev but something just does not sit right with me on Georges head. It kind of looks like he has been carved out of a rock, cannot see the definition in his hair very clearly.

I wouldn’t have bid any more on the sovereign myself, this nicer one sold for £850 this year at London Coins:

It's gorgeous. I'd have willingly paid £460, let alone a mere €460

Both of those coins seem to have heavily doctored images. Did you see the original coin, or was it an e-bay auction?

Ouch. That's way more than a £350 coin IMO ! It's GEF with lustre, not easy to find in that grade at all. Oh well, better luck next time.

Oh, I'm sure the image has been enhanced, but it still doesn't detract from the fact that is is a fantastic coin in fantastic condition. It looks too good, too crisp, but in the hand, I wouldn't mind betting that it still looks damn good.

The Kings head is never well defined, especially on the earlier coinage of his reign, a fact that he used to complain about himself as an avid coin collector!

A very nice Penny and other than the odd bag mark/rim nick difficult to see anything wrong with at all.

It was'nt an Ebay coin, it was a dealers auction. A lot of coins look better when scanned, but i think the penny had really good detail all round

I never realised that George V was a coin collector !! Thanks for that.

Nice to know we're in good company!

I wouldn't mind a squint at the Royal collection :P

I know that unlike King Farouk, old George didn't use cloths and polish on his coins!!!

Pretty nice strike, esp. the reverse. Bit of contact on Georgie's hair but attractive overall; I should think 400 pounds equivalent might have been slightly high but 460 euros a good price in my book. Love nice 18/19 H & KNs well struck and preserved!
