Not often you get anything quite as good as this on e bay, but I really am impressed by this coin, with a starting bid (quite reasonably) of a grand.

UKPennyman, haven't come across him before.

The only observation I would throw into the mix is that his photographs seem very bleached by flash and it's difficult to make an assesment of what a coin might look like in hand.

With 292 feedbacks he's obviously quite a new, or infrequent, seller.

As you indicate, 400, photos can be very deceptive at times.

I would say more good VF, seems like there's to much wear on the hair and some around the ear and above the eye to be EF to me?

Yes, GVF. A touch edgy with some contact marks as well and difficult to tell if it's had a bit of a rub due to the flash.

I've bought one coin off him in the past. Described as gEF when sold and as described in the hand. Most would have listed it as unc on ebay, so no complaints based on experience. The 1849 looks gVFish.

The Obverse is better than the Reverse, in my opinion. The Reverse wear is obvious on the Hair, Breast, Leg, and shield. On the Obverse the most noticeable wear is where the hair meets the Brow, right above the eye. The OBV = AEF, the REV = GVF... I know it is kinda splitting hairs!

I think this coin will bring close to 2000 pounds. The 1849's are really hard to find in this grade. If Baldwin's had it, they would probably ask 3500! LOL!

Well, some of you might remember that Freeman sold off the last few coppers of his collection on ebay not so long ago. He sold an 1849 in better condition then that one on currently on ebay, it went for about £1300 I recall, maybe a touch less.

I would guess not much more than the starting price, but it's on ebay which means it may not sell at all or it may triple the start.

I am thinking 1100-1200 but only a guess. I do like this date, and considerably more than many of the bunheads that have been going crazy pricewise of late.

Is it just me or does that look like the twopence? According to Peck, the KH6,7 halfpenny pattern obverse/reverses have legends that take up the full wdth of the rim. On that photo, the legend only takes up 2/3 of the rim, just like the twopence. And if it really IS the rare halfpenny, why hasn't the seller included a ruler in the picture to prove it? I'm suspicious. Looks like the bidders are too.

For anything over about £500, I'd say auction would normally be best.
