Hi everyone.

New to the forum and thought i would say hello !

The reason ive joined is yesterday i wiped the dust off my coin collection which i collected when i was a wee boy, unfortunatly i havent got clue what coins i have there. my grandad used to tell me which ones were the rare/valuable but i was about 5years of age then.

I think the range of age of the coins is from 1701-1970 at estimate

planning to post pic's of my collection tomorrow. i would be greatfull if any one has any knowledge/info on any of the coins.

i plan to sell some of the collection to maybe put some funds towards an engagement ring to stop her moaning.

Also at some point i would like to buy a undated 20p as an investment in replacement for any coins if i sell.

Welcome to the forum.

There are plenty of users on here that will help with your coins.

I think you're better off keeping the old stuff than buying an undated 20p though, overhyped and overated!

I agree 100%! Save your money. Those undated 20p's are a veritable flash in the pan, unlike the 1983 'NEW PENCE' 2p reverse, which is very rare. But modern coins are, in the eyes of most people here, not as attractive as older ones. For me personally that means mostly from 1936 back (George V and earlier).

To save a lot of time, if you have a scanner, scan your coins (carefully!) in batches, both sides, and let us judge them that way - if you try to do them all singly, you (and we) will be here forever. And to start with, do your oldest and best condition ones first - if you can't make out the legend or design, don't bother!

Did your grandad ever mention "never clean coins"? Still applies. Don't.

And if you were in any doubt about the undated 20p, i will agree with the previous 2 posts, overhyped by people trying to make a huge fast buck, some did in the beginning but now they have levelled out and a pristine example is only worth around 40-60 pounds.

I think it would be much better to keep the older stuff. Looking forward to seeing some scans though
