1982 twenty pence doubling of 82? and around leaf/rose ?

Recommended Posts

2010-11-05-41268-1.jpg

Hi found this 1982 twenty pence obvioulsy circulated but with what appears a doubling of the 82 and similarly some amount the leaf and shadow (on right)

It took me ages to get a cam pic of this but you can see the other part of the 8 at top centre and at right. Then I noticed some doubling of metal around right edge of right leaf and rose edge circle..

What do I have here?

The image of the other '8' and '2' is omewhat weaker in the undernearh part. But this could be as the metal was punched on top again. Is it a double punch of the 82??? Very common or not???

Pity the coin is circulated but I was lucky to see it under magnifier....

Thoughts please as to how this emerged? If indeed an error and has this one been seen before? I would be particularly interested to know why it has only affected the 82 and not the 19 in anyway I can see...

Would be looking to flog it on Ebay probably if confirmed it is a proper error variety/flaw

Regards Russ777

Colin G informe me this could be a case of 'die doubling' as the doubling effect appears not only on the 82 but also in other areas.

Is this likely to realise a good price given the condition of the coin, what sort of calue could be put on this?

Thanks Russ777

If it had been worth much, how come it has not been taken out of circulation before this point in time?

It's only opinion, but I wouldn't think it would be worth much over face. However, you just never know with eBay, and there appear to be more anoraks collecting decimal than predecimal. Don't get your retirement hopes up though.

if it was america though, it would be a varity and worth a bit though.

the thing is i would say it is doubled, but... the 19 is uneffected

here is my 1988, it is clear but it only effects the 88 the leaf on that side, and the inside of the 0 of 20 it is bizzare

i also thing the 88 is slighlty out of place (it is too close to the crown)
