1763 Shilling

Recommended Posts

Here's yet another Northumberland shilling from China. Almost certainly a fake, but any ideas how we can tell the difference between this and the real thing? It's pretty good and no doubt is of the correct silver fineness.

It may have been produced from a genuine example, and then the only way to tell is to see two of them side by side and compare for similarities.

It would almost certainly have been produced that way, so any marks on the original coin (and there is probably only one in the hands of Chinese forgers) would appear on all the coins. I kept this link but have never actually used it; http://www.forgerynetwork.com/Default.aspx. It may be of some use.

Another fake I presume http://cgi.ebay.com/1763-England-shilling-silver-coin-/190474954236?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c593125fc

Seller with 0 feedback - in this identity, but he may have had even lower ratings with other ones previously.

They can easily be 'laundered' by somebody with a better feedback rating and a UK address.

Totally agree 400, its about Time eBay got their act together with the counterfeiting thats rife there. Even when something gets reported it takesthem days to react and usually by that time the item has ended.
